MUSIC

at Custer Road
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.Psalm 100

The Music Ministry offers the chance to let music be a part of your gift to God. Indeed, there is a place for all ages to share in the joys of serving God through music. Through Music Ministry, there are great opportunities for spiritual, personal and musical growth. Although we strive for musical excellence, the priority is for each individual to be nurtured as a Christian and as one who contributes to Christian ministry through participation in the musical leadership of Custer Road United Methodist Church.

Your participation in the Music Ministry Program is greatly desired. We will accept your services on whatever level you are prepared to offer, and we will help your talents grow. Join any of our programs by attending a rehearsal. Together we will make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

-Rev. Tim Morrison

If you’re involved in our music ministry, be sure to check out the Music Notes blog for up-to-date info, including rehearsal schedules.

Revelation Choir EARNS (Eager and Able to Render Needed Services) Program
Every summer, the Rev. Tim Morrison and a group of patient “choir moms and dads” take the Junior High and Senior High Revelation choirs on tour. The youth sing in many different venues:churches, hospitals, homeless shelters, children’s homes, etc. It’s a mission which affects those who hear them and the youth singers themselves.

Part of Custer Road UMC’s operating budget supports these trips and the youth and their families are responsible for the remainder of the cost. One of the ways youth earn their portion is through the Revelation EARNS program. The youth offer services such as babysitting, pet sitting, dog walking, house cleaning, yard work, car washing, holiday help, chores, you name it – to Custer Road UMC members for a fee. The suggested rate of pay is a minimum of $7.25 per hour for their work.

How do I hire a Revelation EARNS member?
It’s easy! Just contact youth directly to make arrangements for their services. Upon completion of their work, please make payment via check, payable to Custer Road UMC and give it to the choir member. Please add the student’s full name in the memo section of your check. No cash payments, please.

Next time you need some extra help, please consider a Custer Road UMC Revelation choir member!

Lists of current Revelation EARNS participants and their talents are available in the church office, at information centers around the church or electronically, by contacting Gloria L’Roy, EARNS Coordinator at grlhome@hotmail.com or 972-517-1338.

Purchase Gift Cards and Help Youth Go on Choir Tour
We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a fundraising program for our Senior High Revelation Choir. It’s called “Scrip”, and it’s the fundraising program that works while you shop. Sr. High Revelation Choir will be ordering the cards the 2nd Sunday of the month with delivery on the following Sunday.

Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” – in other words, Scrips are gift cards from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift cards that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our Scrip program including Target, JC Penney, American Eagle, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Olive Garden, Home Depot, Lowes, Tom Thumb, Wal-Mart and many, many others. Use them for your regular personal expenses such as: groceries, home repair, appliances, clothes, restaurants, pharmacies, movie theaters, gas, and book stores. Plus, they make convenient birthday, holiday, teacher and special occasion gifts! Everyone love gift cards!

You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money.

It’s simple — Scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount. Families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our choir keeps the difference as revenue. And Scrip is exciting, because everybody wins: The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business… You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling. Our choir gets a regular source of revenue. This revenue can be credited to the individual choir member’s account or put into a general fund for choir members who need a scholarship.

The beauty of Scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for Sr. High Revelation Choir Tour. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with Scrip at the stores that participate in the Scrip program!

There are two ways to order Scrip cards:

1. Stop by the Fellowship Hall on designated dates to order or pick up your cards. (The 2016 dates will be posted soon!) We’ll deliver your cards to you on the next Sunday or the Sunday after.

2. Click HERE for step-by-step directions for online ordering. We will also continue to sell Scrip in the church office during the summer. Call first to make sure the box is there! For more information contact Rodney and Gayla Kiel via email.
