Special Needs
Custer Road UMC provides a variety of care for adults and children with special needs.Friday NITE Friends - a respite care program for children, birth to age 15.
Overflow - respite care program one Friday a month, and a special time for social interaction, friendship and fun for teens with special needs between the ages of 12-18 years.
Sunday Morning Friends - a special needs Sunday school class for children at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m.
Lifeguard - a program for adults and children, elementary age and older, who need assistance getting to a class or worship and/or need assistance in a Sunday school class.
Special Needs Classes and Events - workshops and classes for those with special needs, parents of special needs individuals, and more!
All of our Special Needs programs welcome your support. We have several suggestions on how you can support us:
Birthdays and Anniversaries
Our single parents get certificates for dining on their birthdays and our other parents receive theirs on anniversaries. Our parents look forward to their respite evening (Friday NITE Friends) that fall in the month of these special occasions.
Holiday Party
On the first Friday of December we have an annual Friday NITE Friends Holiday party. We provide gifts for the parents and the children, dinner and entertainment. This is an evening when the parents stay with their children and they have the opportunity to visit and make friends with the other families. We can use help, from providing gifts to serving food and cleaning up. If you have this evening free, give us a call.
Special Events
Our children love bounce houses, petting zoos and puppet shows. You or your group could sponsor an event for Friday NITE Friends.
Toys and Supplies
We can always use new or gently used games, puzzles and books for children of all ages in our Friday NITE Friends and Sunday Morning Friends programs. Videos, video games, art supplies and craft projects are a big hit too! Think of us when your children out grow the toys. If you would like to organize a craft night for Friday NITE Friends, we are always available to fit you into our calendar.

In connection with Our Children's House at Baylor, Custer Road UMC hosts workshops for parents, caregivers and educators on various subjects helpful to those who love and work with special needs children. Check back here often to learn about upcoming workshops.
