FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to take a new member class before I join the church?
No, we offer the information class for both members and visitors, but it is not mandatory.

Do I have to contact any previous church about transferring my membership to Custer Road UMC?
No, we will take care of that for you.

What if I have not attended church for several years and do not know where my membership is?
That is not a problem, and we will restore you to membership at Custer Road UMC. This is strictly a paper transaction.

What if I have never been baptized?
We will baptize you at the end of the morning worship service you attend. Baptisms must be scheduled at least 10 days in advance. Baptisms do not occur on Communion Sunday, the first Sunday of each month. Contact Cathy Fowler at ext. 262.

If I want to become a member at Custer Road UMC, but am a member of another denomination, do I have to get "re-baptized"?
No, we accept all baptisms from other Christian denominations.

Can I be in the choir or join a Sunday school class before I join Custer Road UMC?
Yes, visitors are welcome to become active in any area of the church while still visiting.

Do I have to be a member of the church before I can take communion?
Methodists believe in an open communion table. You do not have to be a member of Custer Road UMC, or the United Methodist Church, or any other denomination. All, including children, are welcome at the Lord's table.

How can I find out more about what United Methodists believe?
One of the Information classes is about United Methodists' beliefs. The Rev. John Baldwin, associate minister of evangelism, is always glad to answer any questions you have about United Methodism and how it compares to your present denomination's beliefs.

There isn't a lot of parking at Custer Road UMC. Where else can I park?
Unfortunately, we're fenced in with neighborhoods and have no room to expand parking right next to the church. But the parking lot across the street from the Custer Road UMC campus is available for parking during Sunday worship and some other events. We also have the north lot, that large parking lot at the Custer and Legacy intersection, for your parking convenience. Transportation from the north lot to the Custer Road UMC campus is provided before, during and after Sunday worship.
