Prayer on the Run
Sunday, Sept. 26, 9:45 a.m., room B18
Prayer Conference speakers Sarah Wilke and the Rev. Dr. Susan Ruach offer this after-conference session to help busy people find time to pray. If you are feeling pulled in too many directions and over-committed, this time is designed especially for you. Sarah Wilke and Susan Ruach know what it’s like to struggle with time to be with God each day and will offer little ways to make the most of stray moments.

Information about each component of Prayer Ministry:

Prayer Requests - Prayer requests can be submitted by completing a prayer request card at church, by calling the church, by e-mail or online here. Prayer request cards are located in prayer coves located throughout the church, at the Welcome Center in the narthex, adult Sunday school rooms and the Wesley Chapel prayer room.

Intercessory prayers for the church and the congregation - Intercessory prayer is an expression of love and caring for others. We place their needs and concerns before the throne of Almighty God. Intercessors pray daily and confidentially for the requests received from prayer cards, telephone calls, online, and e-mail as well as for those serving in the military. The Prayer Team also prays daily and confidentially for the needs of the church, its ministers and staff, its missions and its programs. On Sundays, members of the Prayer Team go into the Chapel to pray for every aspect of each of the worship services. Daily, except Saturdays, intercessors enter the Chapel to hold and pray over each of the prayer request cards. The cards are located in a box on a table near the pulpit. Anyone who enters the Chapel is invited to pray over these prayer requests.

Prayer Breakfasts - We enjoy food and fellowship, and we learn more about prayer and deepening our prayer life. We invite you to attend these breakfasts 9–11:30 a.m. in room B18: Aug. 21, Nov. 13.

Spiritual Days Apart - The Prayer Ministry sponsors several half-day retreats 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at an off-site location just minutes from Custer Road UMC. The retreat center offers several options for spending time alone in the presence of the Lord—a lodge (central meeting place), a chapel, a prayer labyrinth, and extensive grounds for walking. Put these dates on your calendar and look for details in the various church communications: Aug. 7, Nov. 6.

Chapel Communion - Communion is served in the Chapel every Sunday before and after the 8:30 a.m. worship service (except the first Sunday of each month and Easter). Volunteers prepare Communion elements and greet those who enter the Chapel. Chapel stewards also assist with Communion services on Christmas Eve and other special events occurring in the Chapel.

Prayers and Squares Quilts - This group makes prayer quilts for church members or their family members who are living with challenging illnesses. Members of Custer Road UMC tie the knots and say a prayer for the recipient before the quilt is presented. This ministry is a source of comfort and support, through prayer, for our church. We minister to the hurt and sick by praying for them and making a tangible sign of our love through prayer quilts. The quilt provides a covering of prayer and comfort for each recipient. Anyone wanting more information on Prayers & Squares can contact the facilitator, Marge Bryan, at 972-396-8546.

Clara Gibson Prayer Conference - In the fall, the Prayer Ministry hosts a conference that emphasizes prayer. During a Friday night session and several Saturday sessions, a renowed guest speaker feeds our hunger to develop a more powerful life of prayer and to deepen our relationship with God. DVDs of the 2008 conference are available for $20 each. Call the church, ext. 267, to purchase one.

Hope and Healing Services - Special services of hope and encouragement are offered quarterly. Communion is usually served, and anointing with oil for healing is available to all who desire it.

Prayer Walks and Prayer Vigils - Prayer walks and vigils are opportunities for each member to honor the pledge to support this church with prayer. We pray to pour our his blessings on the church and those who worship here. Those participating in prayer walks and vigils gather in the Chapel. Often a prayer guide will be provided. Some of these walks and vigils occur annually while others are called for specific purposes. Dates this year are below:
