Electronic Check-In

The Electronic Check-In System is here!

On Sunday, July 5, the Children’s Ministry went live. The second graders were the first group to scan their ID cards, click their name, receive their name tag and head off to their Journey classroom. This project has been a vision for the ministry for several years, so its successful deployment was a blessing and an accomplishment for the entire team!

The check-in system provides more security by:
1. Recording where children are at all times.
2. Printing a receipt required for pick-up for kindergarten through second grade.

Other benefits include:
1. Easy for children to use … just scan, click and go!
2. Ability to insert special instructions such as allergies and pick up instructions.
3. Considerable cost savings. Achieved by purchasing all hardware at wholesale, using the gifts and talents of church member Doug Nelle to custom-build the kiosks, and printing all ID cards in-house.
4. Streamlined attendance – input is fed directly into the membership database, eliminating the need for data entry.
5. Compatible and easy to maintain with existing membership software. Each person is issued a unique barcode system generated ID, but multiple family members can check in with the same card at the same time.

We planned a phased, roll-out approach in order to spread the cost of the hardware, determine how many units we actually need to keep traffic “jams” at a minimum, and to slowly and steadily familiarize families on how to operate it. All of Journey (elementary grades K-5) began using the sytem by the end of August.  We will move to the nursery and preschool areas in October and possibly the youth and adult areas in 2010.

Kiosks are located near the Daily Bread room, Cinema on the Mount, and the Under the Learning Tree room.
