An Unbelievable Thanksgiving

Dear Church Family,
It’s Black Friday, and my family and I have been enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime trip to NYC this week. We have been to the Statue of Liberty, seen Aladdin the Musical, taken a self-guided Night at the Museum tour at the American Museum of Natural History and this morning we went to Radio City Music Hall to watch the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular! So I hope you’ll forgive the lateness of this email! It’s been a whirl-wind few days.
The highlight, of course, was the Thanksgiving Day parade. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little anxious about it given the recent threats to NYC and the sheer number of people we were going to have to navigate to ensure a spot where the kids could see. But it went off without a hitch, and it was a magical day our family will never forget.  We enjoyed a fabulous barbecue dinner complete with pecan pie last night then hit the theater for a showing of The Good Dinosaur before turning in for the evening. All-in-all, it’s been a wonderful chance to get away together after an unusually busy fall both professionally and personally.
You’re probably headed to the malls today and this weekend, right?  Make sure and set aside some of your budget to shop our Alternative Gift Market next Sunday and December 13.  There are lots of great causes supported through this annual event. One is particularly personal for me this year. Jennifer and I are leading a group from Custer Road on a mission trip to Nicaragua next September. Our group is hoping to raise enough money to pay for the cost of the clean water well we’ll be digging, along with other travel costs. We’ll be selling water bottles to that end and we’d be so grateful for your support of this work.
Also for sale at the AGM: a chance to serve with some of your favorite CRUMC staff members at Bed Start. You can purchase gift certificates from Heifer International to support their work or buy fair trade and handmade goods supporting many of the ministries of our church. It’s a great way to buy a wonderful gift and have your money do more good this holiday season.
This weekend we kick off our Advent sermon series, The Gift. We’ll be talking about the things the Wise Men brought to Jesus. Pastor Frank will kick off the series talking about Frankincense and asking the question “What is your sweet offering to the King?”
I hope you’ll join us on Sunday,
Pastor Kory
