Bible Studies for Everyone
Pilgrimage will be a two-year commitment to read the entire Bible cover to cover with a group of fellow believers. We will explore the scripture together and learn from each other. It will be modeled after the highly successful Custer Road Students Pilgrimage class and will be facilitated by Dave Wagner and Tony Hairston using the Socratic method of teaching where thought-provoking questions are raised and discussed and where the participants are largely empowered to find their own answers.
The LOFT Sunday School class is undertaking this commitment as a group but is enthusiastically inviting other adults to join us in this study.
Books are $17 and will be available starting 12/14/21 until 01/27/22 during the CRUMC office hours, Monday- Thursday 9am-12pm, 1pm-4:30 pm and Friday 9am-12pm.
Sundays, 8:15-9:30am, beginning January 16

This 12-week study immerses you in the books of Luke and Acts. Into the World identifies some needs in the world for which ministry is needed and suggests possible responses, then invites participants to summarize the scripture message that will shape their ministry and to decide what response and commitment to make to that message. Each week you will be guided in experiencing the gift of Sabbath rest and renewal. Classes meet for a total of 24 weeks, studying Genesis–Exodus and Luke–Acts for 12 sessions each. Daily preparation is manageable, with 3–5 chapters of the Bible to read each day.

Bible Studies for Women
Time God calls us to a life that we could never imagine on our own. Samuel, Esther, Jonah…they all lived pretty ordinary lives…until they didn’t. In Called, author Susan Robb shows us how God interrupts the lives of ordinary men and women, calling and empowering them to lives of service they never would have imagined on their own. And she shows us that the same God who called six of the Bible’s most iconic characters calls us, too, to bring hope and transformation to the world. Discover how to hear and respond to the unique call God is placing on your life in this six-week study. The study was written by Susan Robb, a minister at Highland Park UMC, Dallas.
Taught by Linda George
Mondays, May 2 to June 13 10am-11:30am
Room 204
Explore a fresh and timely interpretation of Jesus’ most popular teaching parables. Jesus knew how to tell a story. He knew that in order to get his message across he needed to relate to the people who gathered to listen—first century Jews—who lived in a very different world than the one in which we live today. In Short Stories by Jesus, author Amy-Jill Levine takes you back in time and explains how original audiences understood Jesus’ parables. You’ll learn how new interpretations of the parables continue to challenge and provoke contemporary readers two thousand years later.
Taught by Linda George
Mondays, March 14-April 25, 10-11:30am, Room 204 (No class on April 18)

Bible Studies for Men
The Book of Hebrews to modern day Christians may seem to be a strange and difficult book to read and understand. It has a different feel and texture when placed along side of the Gospels and Paul’s letters. However, the book’s theology follows the Gospel message and Paul’s teachings. Although its author is unknown the book was written to encourage a group of new Christians from falling back to their old religious understandings and practices. This is a men's Bible study group that goes back 15 yrs in association with the United Methodist Men (UMM) at CRUMC. It is an open discussion format lead by Dennis Allen who provides facilitation as each verse and chapter is read by the group. All you need is your favorite Bible, what you know in your faith and an open mind.
Fridays, December 3-April 29, 6:45am via Zoom
