LEGENDS is Custer Road UMC’s Senior Adult Ministry. The name of this ministry honors all Custer Road adults age 60 and older! We We look forward to seeing you  at our fun events  and our ongoing Legends programs like Faith and Fitness.

Legends Presents Their Summer Lecture Series:
“What It Means to be Human – A View from the East”  Featuring: Dr. Robert A. Hunt
Monday, June 19-Wednesday, June 21, 1:30-3pm, Room B18, FREE

Over these three days we will look at the different ways that Chinese, Indian, and Islamic culture understand what it means to be human in society, how these views differ from those found in the Christian West, and what this may mean for international relations today. This lecture series is FREE, however we ask that you register HERE to reserve your space.

Legends-GuyDr. Robert A. Hunt was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1955. After attending school in Austin and Richardson, he majored in History at the University of Texas in Austin. After completing a Master of Theology at Perkins School of Theology (SMU) he served the Bethany United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. In 1985 he and his wife Lilian moved to Kuala Lumpur, where they taught at the Seminary Theology Malaysia. From 1993 to 1997 he taught at the Trinity Theological College in Singapore. In 1994 he received his PhD from the University of Malaya, focusing on Christian missions to and relationship with Muslims in Southeast Asia. From 1997 to 2004 he was pastor of the English Speaking United Methodist Church of Vienna, and an adjunct professor at Webster University in Vienna. Dr. Hunt is presently Director of Global Theological Education at the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University and teaches courses in World Religions, Inter-religious Dialogue, and Mission.

Faith and Fitness:

Mondays and Thursdays, room B5, 9:15am
Do you want to have fun, feel revived and be restored so you can tackle the day? Join us at Faith and Fitnes for this joy-filled, low impact workout, where you can get fit, laugh, talk and hear a short devotional afterwards. Occasional field trips are incorporated for social and physical enrichment. Contact Pam Richardson by email here or call 972-491-1875.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We are a generation that believes in hard work, living for God, and giving back. Below are some areas where we Custer Road LEGENDS like to spend our time doing that.

Church Office – Meet fellow volunteers each Thursday morning to stuff bulletins, envelopes, or answer phones. Contact Shauna Ward via email here or call 972-618-3450 for more information.

Plain-O Helpers – The volunteer organization Plain-O Helpers aids seniors, persons with disability and decreased mobility, and single parents in need with minor home repairs. Plain-O Helpers helps members and visitors of Custer Road UMC with safety related items wherever they live and supports the general public in the Plano Independent School District.  Donations are welcome, but not a requirement. Readers for CRCDS Children – Readers offer stories to our Custer Road Day School preschoolers every two weeks, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9-11:30 a.m., in the Library (located across from the Chapel). Contact Linda Pack via email here or call 972-618-1437.

Visitation – Visit hospital patients and shut-ins, nursing homes and retirement centers. Contact Brenda McKnight, Director of Care Ministries, via email here or call 972-618-3450, ext. 285.
