Colossians 3:17 – “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Our family is definitely in the child rearing season of life. Since the point in which we could, we have continuously been trying to instill thankfulness into the hearts of our children. This has proven to not always be the easiest task. It has taken considerable reminding and a lot of praying. Sometimes, there are tears….from everyone.
Sometimes, their “special treat” is taken away because they forgot to say “thank you.” However, we love them unconditionally ALL OF THE TIME whether they thank us or not. Our hearts are truly filled with delight when we hear our children’s expressions of thankfulness without being prompted. When they thank us for the presents, or the meals, or the menial things, we are filled with joy. When we see them show gratitude toward their friends and teachers, we can’t help but smile. When they say their prayers and thank God for our soldiers, tears of happiness fill our eyes. It is in moments like these that we know Jesus is in their hearts. We pray that our children will have a gracious heart that does not cease.
Jesus wants the same of us, his children. Often, He probably feels the same way we do while trying to train our little ones… constantly reminding, constantly praying, and even a few tears. What if He took away our “special treat” because we forgot to say “thank you”? Luckily, we are incredibly blessed by His unconditional love. Jesus finds enjoyment, just as we do, in hearing gratitude from His children. Each time we thank Him, for blessings great and small, his heart is filled with happiness.
