Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
I am driving down the road and it is drizzling. It’s just enough to need the wipers, yet when I do turn them on, it just smears across the windshield. It blocks my vision, making it hard to see where I am going. The wipers keep going and are trying to clear the windshield so I can see. The motion and sound of the windshield wipers gets me thinking.
I realize I am complaining to myself about the lack of a clean windshield and that I should be thanking God for this much needed rain. My vision is blocked and therefore I am failing to be thankful for what God is sharing with me. Sitting at the stop light with the sound of the wipers going back and forth, I notice something in the sky. Not one, but two beautiful rainbows, a double rainbow. I know this is God’s reminder that He is committed to me, loves me, provides for me, and is speaking to me through these beautiful colors. This also makes me think of the covenant He made for you and me. God is saying to me that all things are beautiful. All He wants from us is our commitment to do all things in His name, whether in words, deeds, or gifts and do it in a spiritual way. He reminds me, through that rainbow, that He is committed to me, loves me and will walk with me along my journey.
Dear God. Thank you for your subtle reminders of your commitment to me. Help me know that I too have commitments. Commitments to do all things in your name, using my words, deed and gifts; and doing so in a spiritual way.
