Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”

I’ve grown up in this church and have been apart of everything ever since I can remember: choir tours, mission trips, retreats, Friday Night Friends, Overflow, Summer Lunch Programs, youth small groups and worship. It is because of these programs I have grown a big heart for the community here at Custer Road UMC. As a result, I tend to reach out into multiple communities. These are the communities that most people aren’t comfortable with. I fit in perfectly at this church because like myself, Custer Road has open hearts. Hearts that give in every way they can whether it be money, giving your kids up for a week so they can go on trips to serve others, or giving up much of your time on Sundays to go to church and youth.

This past summer, I went on the Youth Urban Mission Trip to Denver, CO. For hours a day, we served homeless people, giving them smiles, food, clothes, love, and sometimes just something to do so their day would be a little better. It is through that trip, I realized what God has called me to do: go out in the world and continue to give with everything I have.

As Christians, that’s what we are all supposed to do. Give back with love, forgiveness, patience, and have complete faith that God will lead us in the right direction through it. We are told to drop what we are doing and go. Go & be. Be what God calls you to be. Going out in the world and being a part of mission trips or doing hands on work isn’t always the way to give back, which is why we donate money to the church. Giving money to the church does more than just open opportunities. It allows youth members like myself to go out and give, live the life of shining God’s light and giving it all back. Some of our gifts give youth members the chance to feel the warmth and blessings as God’s hands work through them. No gift is better than those given for the one who created us. In James 1:17 it talks about this and tells us how all gifts in God’s eyes are perfect. Start small, give a little, and watch it grow into something big.

Reflection:
What ways can I give?
How can I begin a life that gives it all to God?

Dear God, Thank you for this community. A community that fills not only our hearts but, other’s hearts as well. I pray that we all live a life that gives it all back to you. I pray that you touch our hearts as we touch others. We love you. In Jesus name. Amen.
