Esperanza 5K

Custer Road United Methodist Church has canceled all group meetings at the church until after April 3, 2020. This includes the in-person Esperanza 5K & 1 mile Family Fun Run with Family Festival scheduled for Saturday, March 28.

We are sad to have to cancel the in-person Esperanza 5K event at the church, but we are excited to announce that we are transitioning the Esperanza 5K to a virtual race, complete with our signature finishers’ medals! A virtual race allows you to walk or run a 5K (or 1 mile) in your own neighborhood and share your results with us. Medals will be awarded to all finishers, just as if we all ran the race together!

Walking/running outside (or on a home treadmill) is one of the best things you can do to boost your immune system and improve your physical and emotional health during this uncertain time. So, join us between March 28 and April 4 to complete a 5K or 1 mile. Then share your accomplishment with us on our Facebook page, on Twitter or Instagram using #esperanza5k. We will send an email in the future to let you know when and where you can pick up your hand-painted, one of a kind, 2020 finisher medal

If you are already registered, there is nothing you need to do to transition to the virtual race. And, it’s not too late to register, so invite friends and family everywhere to join you in this virtual event! New registrations will be accepted through April 4, 2020, at . And as always, donations are always accepted to support Juntos Servimos.

These are challenging times for us all. Our friends at Casa Bugambilia, the refuge in Matamoros Mexico that is supported by Juntos Servimos, continue to provide a compassionate response to the medically fragile residents as well as the more than 50 refugee guests. Like us, they are facing the added challenge of potential coronavirus. Your support through participating in the Esperanza is needed now more than ever. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! If you have questions, please contact Jennifer Wagner at

Juntos Servimos

The Esperanza races support Juntos Servimos, helping to bring hope to our neighbors in the border towns of Mexico. 100% of event proceeds go to Juntos Servimos and to date, Esperanza 5K has raised over $400,000 for JS. Let’s bring even more hope to these families who are living in impoverished conditions.

Juntos Servimos is a mission begun by Dr. Nancy and Larry Cox in Matamoros, Mexico. Juntos Servimos, which means ‘Together We Serve’, helps people in need in Mexico by eliminating barriers to spiritual and physical wholeness. For more information, please see

Juntos Servimos:
All proceeds benefit Juntos Servimos (Together We Serve) and its efforts to bring physical and spiritual wholeness to families suffering the impacts of extreme poverty in northern Mexico. The Esperanza 5K brings hope, esperanza, by raising money that provides healthcare, education, shelter, food, and water.
