Love Where You Live | Saturday, April 27

LWYL’s purpose is to show God’s love by helping our neighbor. Over the last six years, Custer Road has participated in the City of Plano’s Love Where You Live (LWYL) program by helping homeowners in need with home clean-up and minor repair projects. Custer Road has sponsored 45 home improvement projects in some of the oldest neighborhoods in Plano.

Saturday, April 27, is the Service Day on the next phase of this program, which is in the Meadows/Ridgewood Neighborhood, located east of Jupiter Road and south of 18th Street. Custer Road, in coordination with Plano and other faith-based organizations, will be providing volunteer help to homeowners whose homes need vital improvements.

There are three areas you can get involved with this outreach to our neighbors:

      • Project Manager: You will work with our LWYL coordinator, Dennis Allen to organize the work, materials, and volunteers required. You don’t have to be a home repair expert, just willing to lead and manage the work. If you would like, team up with another person for this role. We will be adopting the homes at the end of March, so if interested, please contact Dennis directly at all13983@gmail.com. This will determine how many homes we can adopt.
      • Volunteer to Work on the Homes: The second area is as a volunteer to work on the homes on April 27. Most projects involve cleaning up the yards, shrubs, trimming trees, light painting in some cases and repairing fences. On a few homes, we may have repairs to trim and/or repairs to fencing. There is work for every level of expertise. Sunday School classes and other small groups, this is an opportunity for your members to join together for a day to volunteer on one of these projects! Let Dennis know and he will be happy to come and talk with your group. Click here to sign up to volunteer to work on the Love Where You Live homes.
      • Trash Pick-up Volunteer: The third area is as a volunteer to pick up trash in the neighborhood. This is a rewarding activity for small groups that include children and youth. It is managed by the City, who will provide brief safety training, materials, safety gear and then assign small groups to a given street area in the neighborhood. This is a Saturday morning activity only. Click here to sign-up to volunteer to pick-up trash.
