Love Where You Live | Saturday, April 22

The mission’s purpose is to increase our love for God and our neighbor by intentionally building trusted relationships. Over the last five years, Custer Road has participated in the City of Plano’s Love Where You Live program by helping homeowners in need with home cleanup and repair projects. CRUMC has sponsored 35 home improvement projects in some of the oldest neighborhoods in Plano.

We are planning the next phase of this program in the Old Town Neighborhood, which is located just east of downtown area and across from Plano City Hall. This is an older area of our city built after WWII. CRUMC, in coordination with Plano and other faith-based organizations, will be evaluating and providing help to homeowners whose homes and property need vital improvements. Our Service Day is Saturday, April 22.

There are three areas you can get involved with this outreach to our neighbors:

      • Project Manager: A Project Manager for a home project works with our LWYL coordinator, Dennis Allen to organize the work, materials and service givers required. You don’t have to be a home repair expert but, you need to be willing to lead and manage the work. We will be adopting the homes at the end of March, so if you are interested, please contact Dennis directly via email here.
      • Volunteer to Work on the Homes: The second area of service is as a helper to work on the homes. Work will start at 8am, most will be completed by noon, some may last until 3pm. Most projects involve cleaning up the yards, shrubs, trimming trees, light painting in some cases and repairing a fence. On a few homes we may have repairs to trim and/or guttering on the house. There is work for your level of expertise. Sunday School Classes and other small groups, this is an opportunity for members to join together for a day of service for one of your neighbor’s project! Let Dennis know if your group is interested. Individuals can sign-up to help here.
      • Litter Pick-up Volunteer: The third area is as a helper to pick up litter in the neighborhood from 8am-Noon. This is a rewarding activity for small groups including children and youth. This is managed by the City who will provide some brief training, materials, safety gear and then assign small groups to a given area in the Old Town neighborhood. Individuals can sign-up to help here.
