Dear Church Family,
I hope you saw the special announcement we sent out this past week. If you didn’t, I want you to know that the Rev. Nancy Sherman has been appointed as our new Senior Associate Pastor. She has served in senior and executive pastoral roles in several churches in our conference and has a Masters of Divinity from SMU Perkins School of Theology. She has also served as a Chaplain at Parkland and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas so she brings a host of experience with her into this new role. I am excited to have her on board.
I’m also excited to let you know that we have two other new staff members joining our ministry team this month. In our youth program, John Cravens will be taking over as our Director of Youth Ministries. John has 15 years of experience in youth ministry, most recently at First UMC Plano. We are also pleased to welcome Kyle Powell who will be joining us as an Associate Youth Pastor. He comes to us from Highland Park UMC.
It seems like a long time ago that we celebrated our Above and Beyond campaign with a special worship service in the Sanctuary. Do you remember how exciting it was? How we re-told the story of where God had brought us, and dreamed about where He was leading? Well, guess what? I’m even more excited now. I wish you could sit in with me on meetings with architects, our finance team, and the building committee. What started out as rough ideas and broad dreams is being brought into focus more and more each day. Blueprints are being drawn up, a time table is being refined, and our terrific leaders are putting in the due diligence of identifying the most qualified builders to come alongside us. This is a great time to be a part of Custer Road! We set up a website, AboveAndBeyond.crumc.org, when we started the campaign. That site is where you can go to see some new renderings from the architects that just came out this week. And once we begin construction in earnest, this will be the site where you can see the work unfold before your eyes. I am so excited about the future of Custer Road UMC and how this new building will be used as a tool to reach more people in our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
I want to remind you about our Called Church Conference on May 22nd after the 10:30 a.m.service. At this meeting, you’ll be updated on the design, budget and timeline aspects of our project and take part in a vote to move forward with our strategic campus redesign.
Finally, I hope you will join us on Sunday as Rev. Tim Morrison concludes our Fakebook sermon series.
