20 FAMILIES REMAIN TO BE SPONSORED !!

Without the help of Custer Road, our family wouldn’t have a Christmas.”, wrote a grateful parent, after benefitting from last year’s Head Start Family Sponsorship drive.

The PISD Head Start program is nationally recognized as an exemplary preschool program for disadvantaged children.  Teachers have prepared packets listing the needs and wants of each child and their family members.  In past years, individuals and groups at CRUMC sponsor one or more of the 143 families for the holidays, donating gifts and gift cards to help with Thanksgiving and Christmas.  For the 2020 holidays, a year like no other, we will support the same number of families with GIFT CARDS ONLY.  The families can choose between the following stores…Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger and Marshall’s.

This year on two Sunday mornings, October 25 and November 1, you can sign up in the Commons area to sponsor a child, ages three to five, and their family for the holidays (after November 1, please contact Susan Williams directly to make arrangements).  Information regarding the family, a picture of the student, and two small manila envelopes will be provided in an information packet.  Scrip volunteers will also be in the Commons on the same two dates, and you can purchase cards from three of the four stores and benefit CRUMC’s Revelation Youth Choir program too!  Kroger cards are not available with Scrip but can be bought at any Kroger store. Arrangements can be made for anyone who would like to sponsor a family but doesn’t feel comfortable with entering the church, with a pick-up in the parking lot by Susan Williams.

Gift cards can be delivered to the school on dates specified in the packet, by the sponsor, but to make things easier, they can be dropped off at the church office, in the manila envelope from the student’s packet.  There will also be a drive-by collection on Wednesday November 11, noon-4:00, for Thanksgiving, and Tuesday, December 8, noon-4:00, where you can hand Susan the envelopes and not have to leave your car or enter the church.

This project is exciting for the entire family, and something that Custer Road families and Sunday school classes look forward to every year. It is a wonderful way to be the hands of feet of Christ for a family who might not have much Christmas joy.  For questions, contact Susan Williams at 972-345-4458 or suzewill@yahoo.com.
