“Without the help of Custer Road, our family wouldn’t have a Christmas”, wrote a grateful parent, after last year’s Head Start Family Sponsorship drive.
The PISD Head Start program is nationally recognized as an exemplary preschool program for disadvantaged children. Teachers have been visiting their homes, and have prepared packets listing the needs and wants of each student and their family members. Each year, individuals and groups at CRUMC adopt one or more of the 140 families for the holidays, donating gifts and gift cards to help with Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This year on Sunday mornings, October 20 and 27, come to the table in The Commons to sponsor a child, aged three to five, and their family for the holidays. Information regarding the family, a picture of the student, and sponsorship guidelines will be included with their packet. Usually a social worker from the school is on hand to answer questions about the program. Gifts are delivered to the school on dates specified in the packet, by the sponsor. Gifts are NOT delivered back to the church.
This project is exciting for the entire family, and it’s something that Custer Road families and Sunday school classes look forward to every year. It is a wonderful way to be the hands and feet of Christ for a family who otherwise will not have much Christmas joy. For questions, contact Susan Williams at 972-345-4458, or email@example.com
