Sharing Shoes & Joy in Peru

High in the Andes mountains, on the outskirts of the Inca capital city of Cusco, lies a small village called Chocco. Home to a few hundred families, Chocco is one of the places where shoes and socks collected by Custer Road families may be sent to bless children. When I traveled to Chocco with Buckner International in 2019 to help deliver shoes, I saw how grateful the families were, not only for the shoes but also for the family and community support Buckner provides. When you donate shoes and socks to Shoes and Joy in Peru, you’re not just meeting an important short-term need. You’re participating in a long-term relationship between Custer Road, Buckner and the families of Chocco. You’re helping families find hope, support and empowerment within their own community to reach their fullest God-given potential.

How can you participate?

  • Contribute to the March communion offering for purchasing shoes and socks.
  • Drop new shoes and socks in the bins in the Mission Donation Area anytime in March, or at the table in the Commons on March 20. There will also be a collection bin at the CRUMC Homecoming on 3/27. Athletic or canvas shoes are preferred, from youth size 1 to adult size 9.
  • Volunteer to sort shoes for international shipping at the Buckner Humanitarian Aid Center in Mesquite on Friday, March 25, noon – 2:30 p.m. or Saturday, April 2, 9 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F4AA8A723A2FC1-sort1.
  • Pray for Buckner staff who will deliver the shoes and the children who will receive them.
