A Word About Last Sunday

Dear Church Family,
I am writing this note from Lake City, Colorado where my family and I are spending a week together at Sky Ranch family camp. The cool air and mountain breeze have been good for my soul, and I pray that you’ve had an opportunity to take a break from the Texas heat as well.
I want to say a special word of thanks to everyone who helped make last Sunday’s worship service possible. It was a last minute change from our planned service, but a needed one. Rev. Sharon O’Connor and Rev. Veronica Brown-Williams were powerful in their leadership and in their healing words. As our city and even our nation have been torn apart by racial strife and violence, it is important now more than ever to be the light of Christ in our hurting world. The photo here shows members of our congregation praying for police and first responders as Rev. Brown-Williams asked for God’s blessing and protection on them.

I’d like to take a minute to update you on our Above and Beyond Capital Campaign and strategic building redesign.
In May, we delayed our Called Church Conference where you would have seen and voted on the final plans for the project. As you are aware, we sent the architect and general contractor back to the drawing board and I’m pleased to tell you that progress continues to be made on a design that will fit within our budgetary constraints while reflecting the Five Pillars which are driving the renovations.
Our hope is to present the final plans for approval sometime in the fall with construction set to begin shortly after the New Year. (We could begin earlier, but because Christmas is such a busy time of year here at Custer Road, we decided it would be best to break ground after the New Year.)
I want to thank those of you who have pledged and given to the campaign thus far. We had 541 families or individuals pledge to give 5.8 million dollars over the next three years. To date, 401 of these families plus an additional 88 families (who did not pledge) have given a total of 1.7 million dollars in just the first six months of the campaign. Thanks be to God for these incredible gifts!
If you have not begun fulfilling your pledge commitment, we would ask you to prayerfully consider doing so. Having cash on hand as we prepare to break ground will be a huge benefit for the church and its position during this project.
If you did not initially pledge, but would like to be a part of what God is doing here at CRUMC, you can still pledge and give to the campaign online. You can also participate in the program through other means such as in-kind and stock donations. For more information, please contact Tim Pullen at tpullen@crumc.org.
Everyone involved in the Above and Beyond Campaign is excited about the future of our church. God has amazing things in store for us! I’m grateful to those of you who have been praying faithfully about the direction God would take our church and we look forward to sharing a final design, budget and timeline with you in the near future.
This Sunday we’ll return to our Broadway series. Rev. Tim Morrison will share with us some of the Biblical truths that can be found in West Side Story, one of his favorite musicals. You won’t want to miss it!
Many Blessings,
